Due to severe winter weather in our community, Rice is suspending normal operations and classes on Tuesday, January 16. The following campus activities and services are modified:
Classes: No classes, in person or online, will be held. All assignments are due as detailed on the syllabus unless the instructor states otherwise.
Staffing: Only essential personnel, as assigned by their supervisor, should report to campus on Tuesday, January 16. All other faculty and staff should work remotely if possible. All campus buildings are now accessible only with ID cards, so please bring your Rice ID card if you come to campus. The university urges all employees to exercise extreme caution as they travel to and from Rice as the conditions remain hazardous across Houston.
Dining: No public dining is available on campus on Tuesday, January 16. There will be a modified servery schedule North, West, South, and Siebel from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Campus Events: Most campus events are canceled. The men’s basketball game at Tudor Fieldhouse will be played as scheduled.
Shuttle Services: Will not be operating on Tuesday, January 16.
Parking: All lots will be open for those who must come to campus so that they can parkpark closest to their working location.
Rec Center: The Rec Center will open at 10 a.m. on January 16 and close at midnight.
RMC: The Rice Memorial Center/Ley Student Center is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the campus bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but the Coffeehouse and Sammy’s will be closed.
Delivery Services: Closed.
ID Office: Closed.
Fondren Library: Fondren will open at 10 a.m. on January 16 and close at 2 a.m.
