Campus traffic will be significantly impacted by former President Barack Obama's attendance at the Baker Institute's 25th anniversary gala Tuesday, Nov. 27.

The National EAS/WEA (Emergency Alert System/Wireless Emergency Alert) systems will be tested today. You can expet to receive a test alert to your mobile device. This testing is independent from from the RICE ALERT system.
For the safety of students and employees, Rice University will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 17, in anticipation of the precipitation and freezing temperatures predicted throughout the night and into tomorrow.
The Crisis Management Team will be meeting at 8 p.m. to assess road conditions and the forecast for Wednesday, so our announcement about the university's status for tomorrow will be delayed. We should have an update posted here before 9 p.m. and will also send a text and an email.
Due to the weather forecast and icy road conditions, Rice University will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 16. All classes are canceled. Essential employees should contact their supervisor to discuss whether they are needed on campus today and whether they can get to campus safely.
A number of local schools are closed next week. In response, Rice will offer a limited number of slots for child care on campus Sept. 11-15 to help our employees who have returned to work.
