To ensure that students, faculty or staff members receive this critical emergency information, they should maintain updated contact information in the ESTHER system. Contact information should include local and home emergency numbers where Rice can most effectively provide time-sensitive emergency information.
We are learning more about extended closure dates for local schools. We will be extending child care options through at least next week and possibly the following week. We will provide additional details tomorrow.
Faculty and staff who live in east Houston should know that properly identified FEMA representatives are going door to door in an area of east Houston near the Trinity and Houston Gardens community to register residents for disaster assistance.
The needs assessment indicates that nearly 600 members of the Rice community suffered water damage to their vehicles from Harvey. To assess who might need help with transportation to campus this week, we will be emailing a form to all of those who indicated vehicle damage.
As we head into Labor Day weekend, many of you may be cleaning up after Harvey or helping others whose homes were damaged or left uninhabitable by the storm. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a crew of student volunteers to help you.
Although Rice University will be reopening Tuesday, some Houston-area school districts, including HISD, remain closed until Sept. 11 as they continue to recover from Tropical Storm Harvey. Some day care centers may also remain closed next week.
