WEATHER UPDATE - Monitoring Winter Weather - January 17, 2025

Cold arctic air may bring winter precipitation next week, mainly in the form of snow, freezing rain, and rain.

Dear Rice Community,

As we approach next week, we want to inform you that Rice Emergency Management is closely monitoring the weather forecast in partnership with local weather authorities.

Current models indicate the potential for wintry precipitation in conjunction with freezing temperatures beginning late Monday and continuing into Tuesday, possibly extending into Wednesday.

We will keep you informed as we track the weather and assess potential impacts on university operations. Any decisions regarding schedule changes will be made by the Crisis Management Advisory Committee (CMAC) and communicated promptly through RICE ALERT and emergency.rice.edu.

In the event of a university closure next week, please be aware that extracurricular activities may also be canceled. In the meantime, we hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend and enjoy time with your loved ones.

Thank you,

Rice Emergency Management

The system in the gulf is unlikely to become a hurricane, but not if you're listening to TikTok! We don't usually do provide links to anything but the National Weather Service, but here's a link to Space City Weather that describes the situation well. This is hurricane season, and we should all be prepared, but this one may not be it.
