The Rice campus will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, following the MLK holiday, and we will continue to monitor the weather for decisions regarding Wednesday, Jan. 22. This web page will continue to be updated with exceptions for some graduate programs along with information about campus service offerings.
Classes – Classes and other instructional activities will be canceled with the following exceptions:
- Business School Master’s programs will either pivot to or continue online.
- Online RCEL courses (or OMEML courses) will continue, unless otherwise directed by the course instructor.
Employees – Rice Incident Management Team responders who are required to report to campus have already been notified. Work for all other employees will be canceled on Tuesday.
Off-Campus Undergraduate Students — If you wish to stay in your residential college, please plan to be on campus by 6 p.m. Monday to avoid treacherous roads. Please alert your core team if you stay on campus for the winter weather.
Parking – All lots will be open Tuesday to support incident responders.
Parking Garages – Garages will remain open as long as it is safe to do so.
Buses – Campus bus service will be suspended pending road conditions.
Recreation Center – The Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center will be closed Tuesday.
Fondren – Fondren Library will be closed Tuesday.
Student Center – The Rice Student Center will be closed Tuesday.
Dining – Retail dining operations on campus will be limited. Please visit dining.rice.edu for the most current information about which services are available.
Events and Activities — Events and activities planned for Tuesday have been canceled.
Campus Entrances – Starting at 7 p.m. Monday all entrances will be closed except for Entrance 8 (intersection of University Boulevard and Stockton Drive); on Tuesday morning Entrance 20 (intersection of Rice Boulevard and Kent Street) will be reopened.
Campus Access - Buildings will be only open to those with swipe access. Please be aware during closure that there is limited emergency access to campus.
All emergency issues should be reported to RUPD at 713-348-6000. All non-emergency issues can be reported to the Emergency Command Center at 713-348-8281.
