Rice ALERT - Classes moved online Friday
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Houston until noon Friday. Due to the possibility of freezing rain and icy road conditions, Rice University will operate in a modified manner Friday:
- All classes will be delivered remotely. If a class cannot be delivered in an online format, the instructor should determine the best way to make up for the missed class.
- Nonessential employees should work remotely. If you have any doubt about whether you need to come to campus, please check with your supervisor.
- Research activities may continue as needed.
- Fondren Library closed at 8 p.m. tonight and will reopen at noon Friday.
- The Gibbs Rec Center, student center (including vendors) and Brochstein Pavilion will open at noon Friday.
- Scheduled events may proceed on Friday, but you need to consult with the Crisis Management Team by emailing hrf1@rice.edu.
- Serveries will operate on a weekend schedule starting at lunch time Friday. The North, Seibel, South and West serveries will open for continental breakfast at 10 a.m.
- All COVID-19 testing will be delayed until noon Friday. If you have a test scheduled before noon and still wish to test Friday, please come to your testing location between noon and 4:45 p.m.
Please be weather-aware and plan accordingly. Remember the five P's of cold-weather preparedness: Protect people, pets, pipes and plants and practice fire safety.
