In the aftermath of Harvey, our Facilities Engineering and Planning crews continue to go through every room of every building on campus to check for damage from the storm and make repairs as quickly as possible. We're extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated team, and we hope everyone appreciates their Herculean efforts.
The needs assessment has helped us better understand who has suffered water or other damage to homes. Thanks to the Rice Harvey Action Team (R-HAT), we have volunteer crews available to help you tear out drywall, move furniture, pull up wet carpet and perform other tasks for you or others in your neighborhood. To request a volunteer crew, or to volunteer yourself, please send an email to helphouston@rice.edu. We have some jobs where participation from faculty or staff would be very helpful.
Tomorrow we will start calling people who have not responded to the needs assessment to make sure we understand the full extent of the issues faced by the Rice community. If you have not done so already, please fill out the short survey here: https://emergency.rice.edu/needs-assessment.
As always, please send questions or concerns to cmtcomment@rice.edu.
