Harvey update for Friday

Harvey update for Friday

As we head into Labor Day weekend, many of you may be cleaning up after Harvey or helping others whose homes were damaged or left uninhabitable by the storm. Please email helphouston@rice.edu to request a crew of student volunteers to help you.

Below are links to some resources that might be helpful.

Houston's Office of Emergency Management and Emergency Operations Center have compiled a variety of information ranging from trash pickup schedules and how to register for FEMA assistance to the location of food pantries and tips for cleaning and sanitizing your home. Check out both sites:

Rice's Human Resources Department has posted a similar list of information, including some resources that are specifically for Rice faculty and staff, such as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), wellness tips, and pay and benefit information:

Next week we hope to offer some workshops on what to do to recover from the storm damage, such as submitting insurance claims, dealing with FEMA and preventing mold. We hope to recruit some Rice experts to teach these sessions. The time and location will be announced next week.

For those of you who don't have family to help with child care next week while many of the school districts remain closed, be sure to check the message we sent earlier this evening about some of the options to consider.

Please find at least a few hours this Labor Day weekend to rest and recover.

As always, please send questions or concerns to cmtcomment@rice.edu.
