A number of local schools are closed next week. In response, Rice will offer a limited number of slots for child care on campus Sept. 11-15 to help our employees who have returned to work. Priority will be given to elementary and middle school children whose schools will not open until at least Sept. 18. Bright Horizons will care for your children in the first-floor event space at the BRC with games, books, arts and crafts, coloring and more. Child care will be available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you need this care, please complete the child care survey at https://emergency.rice.edu/content/childcare-part-2. Even if your children attended child care at the BRC this past week, you will need to complete the survey.
For other child care options, click on the Employee Resources button in the left column on emergency.rice.edu and then click on "Information on child care" in the column on the right.
Rice will announce a financial assistance program for employees seriously affected by Hurricane Harvey early next week. Details of the program will be provided then. We are making this initial announcement to give employees the opportunity to assemble insurance policies, photos of storm damage and receipts for repairs and flood-damage, temporary housing, temporary transportation and replacement of personal household contents. The program is designed to address immediate needs as they relate to primary residence and primary vehicle. Information will be widely distributed early next week.
We realize that there is still much ahead of us in the recovery from Harvey but hope that you will have at least a moment or two to enjoy what promises to be a beautiful weekend.
As always, if you have comments or questions, please send them to cmtcomment@rice.edu.
