Rice University Winter Weather Status and Resources (Sunday Update)

Parking—Surface lots will be open beginning Sunday. Garages are card-accessible and will remain open as long as it is safe to do so.

Buses—There is no campus bus service Sunday or Monday.

Recreation Center—The Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center will be closed on Sunday. Please check recreation.rice.edu for updated hours beyond Sunday.

Fondren — Fondren Library will be closed Sunday and Monday. Staff will be virtual Monday.

Student Center—The Rice Student Center will be closed Sunday and Monday. Staff will be virtual Monday.

Dining—Retail dining operations on campus will be limited. Please visit dining.rice.edu for the most current information about which services are available.

Moody Art Center—Closed to the public until Tuesday. They will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Baker Institute—Closed Sunday and Monday.

Shepard School of Music—All school activities cancelled through Sunday. This includes rentals, degree recitals, admissions auditions, master classes and rehearsals. Shepherd School will follow Rice’s remote plan Monday; all in-person activities have been cancelled. (This affects public recitals, admissions auditions and ensemble rehearsals).

Events and Activities—Events and activities planned for Sunday have been cancelled. No in-person events for Monday.

Campus Access—Buildings will only be open to those with swipe access.

Student Health Services, Wellbeing, and Rice Counseling—all staff will be operating remotely on Monday. 

All emergency issues should be reported to RUPD at 713-348-6000. All non-emergency issues can be reported to the Emergency Command Center at 713-348-8281.

City of Houston and Harris County Warming Centers There will be warming centers open across the city until Tuesday afternoon, Jan 27. Warming center locations and hours of operation will be posted as they are available on the Houston OEM website and the ReadyHarris website. Check the Houston TranStar traffic map for icy road conditions.
